PKU-UChicago Joint Lectures 2021

With the aim of spurring more understanding between the two academic communities, the Center has been working together with the University of Chicago in organizing online lectures in the following fields.

Organic/Organometallic Chemistry

From July 16 to August 20, 12 faculty members from PKU and UChicago gave six joint lectures in total, introducing their current research efforts.

Economics of Education

With the support from the Center, PKU’s School of Education and UChicago’s Center for the Economics of Human Development conducted a joint project in the field of Early Childhood Development Intervention in Chinese urban areas. The project aimed at promoting early childhood development and building a high-quality education and service system in China. The Center invited Professor James Heckman (Nobel Laureate ’00) from CHED UChicago and Professor Ha Wei from PKU’s School of Education to jointly introduce the topic of “Interactions as Investments: The Microdynamics and Measurement of Early Childhood Learning.” Over 300 audience members worldwide attended the online event.

“The Social Sciences at Chicago” lecture and panel series

The Center also collaborates with the Graduate School of Education at Peking University and the University of Chicago Beijing Center to offer “The Social Sciences at Chicago” series, inviting scholars with academic roots at the University of Chicago, together with scholars engaged in the “Chicago School,” to reinterpret the “Chicago School” in the sense of modern academic and educational history in the light of their own research and educational experiences. The series aims to deepen the future-oriented engagement between Peking University and the University of Chicago, promote our understanding of the history of university and school generation, and jointly explore the direction of future research universities.
